Winter Poles Must Be Exchanged With Mooing Buoys by June 11, 2006.The Milwaukee Harbor Master has announced that the seasonal deadline for exchanging winter poles with mooring buoys is June 11, 2006. In a meeting with Coast Guard Group Milwaukee during November 2004, MAMA agreed that all mooring owners would adhere to the changeover deadline set by the Milwaukee Harbor Master. This deadline will change each season depending on weather conditions. After June 11, 2006, MAMA will consider any mooring with a winter pole still attached to be abandoned by its owner. MAMA will exchange all winter poles on abandoned moorings with proper mooring buoys. Any original owner of an abandoned mooring will have until July 1, 2006 to reclaim his mooring from MAMA by paying all costs associated with removing the pole and attaching the buoy. After July 1, 2006, abandoned moorings will be made available to those on our waiting list upon reimbursing MAMA for the costs of the buoy and the change over. This procedure has been approved by the MAMA membership and board as a way of eliminating the navigational hazard and nuisance caused by continued use of winter poles during the sailing season. |
